Blues
Brothers 2000Director: John Landis
Producer: Dan Aykroyd , John Landis , Leslie Belzberg
Running time: 124
Studio: Pioneer Entertainment
Released:1998
Plot: Upon his release, now-brotherless Blues Brother Jake Elwood puts the band back
together (what else?) with the help of a golden-voiced strip joint bartender and a
precious 10-year-old orphan on loan from the comically abusive Sister Mary Stigmata. A
dubious sequel that, fortunately, makes good use of its copious celebrity cameos, which
include appearances from "old schoolers" James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Eric
Clapton, Bo Diddley, and Isaac Hayes in addition to bits from blues phenom Jonny Lang,
Erykah Badu, and John Popper. James Brown, "The Godfather of
Soul," reprises the role of Reverend Cleophus. "I came back again because of
Dan. He is like a little brother to me and I like the way he writes the story of the Blues
Brothers. They are like modern day Robin Hoods with good hearts. I also thing he
understands the meaning of soul and both movies have had wonderful gospel and R&B
music with great stories," Brown says.In addition to singing with the gospel
choir, Brown has an opportunity to perform his classic signature song, "Please,
Please, Please," complete with Johnny Ray carrying out his legendary role, where he
continually withdraws and replaces Brown's robe.
