From his begining with the Famous Flames to the fame of the Apollo, this set documents the years 1956 through 1964. Most tracks are mastered from the mono original master tapes. A 28-page booklet with extensive liner notes and track-by-track annotation is included. "I Found You & I Cried" was taken from vinyl.

 

FOUNDATION OF FUNK    1964-1969

Features previously unreleased, unedited versions of singles released between 1964 and 1969. It comes with a 24-page booklet full of photos and a biographical essay.
Has there ever been a more aptly-titled collection than James Brown's FOUNDATIONS OF FUNK? Probably not. Before 1964, when the first of these innovative, vamp-driven R&B excursions was dropped upon the world, the blueprint for what came to be known as Funk wasn't even drawn up.

The turning point. When most of his band leave him, James Brown reinvented himself again and found with the new band (featuring Bootsy Collins) the the way of a brand new funk. Sex Machine will become certainly one of his most popular signatures.

Between 1971 and 1975, James Brown ran with a bottomless gas tank. He playe the Apollo Theatre five time, toured Africa, Europe and Japan several times. These years kept him from his toes. He worked hard to remain the funkyest showman of the planet and prouved with over 20 hits his was still the "Godfather".

While his band went through changes, his empire crambled and sales dropped, James Brown stood tall in the face of his many imitators, stood tall in the face of the disco and ripped a relentless string of ferocious groove jams.
